If you have to hunt hard to find a difference, then that in itself is a telling sign. The 14" and 16" Pro machines are massively more expensive than the Air laptops. There should be obvious differences right out the gate. I know I didn't do a sustained workload, but I shouldn't have to. Seriously?! I would've paid 4 grand for this?! Bullet dodged. In fact, for some apps the M2 Air was faster and it also restarts faster than the 16" M1 Pro. How do I know? Because I had both macbooks side by side and used a timer and opened up the same apps at the same time, and there was NO difference. The difference in performance? You can't tell any difference in performance unless you use cpu testing software like cinebench, black magic, etc. Both insanely expensive but for double the price you don't get double the performance. Let's not forget the 16" cost me 4 grand after taxes in Canada and the M2 Air was $2100 after taxes. Yeah that popular LG Oled 4K video on youtube looks better on the 16" but it is not as though it's a world away, or a generation away from the M2 Air considering how much more massively expensive it is. Anyways, compared to the M2 Air which has the same brightness (unless watching HDR content) I strongly believe from personal, real-world experience, that the difference in screens is very subtle, barely noticeable. Come on apple, you can definitely make it slimmer and lighter but you won't because you know you'll make more money if you do it later rather than sooner. What a chore to lug around compared to the Air. You really need to hold it in your hands for yourself. You really can't experience the difference by watching videos. But I was discouraged by the thickness and weight. At first I was blown away by the massive screen size. I've had the chance to test it for about 4 days now. I was so impressed with this machine that I wanted apple's best of the best so I ordered the 16" M1 Pro for testing/comparison. I pre-ordered the M2 Air 16gbram/512gb ssd on day one and have been using it daily since August 2nd. This will sound controversial to a lot because they won't want to hear it. It was only after I ordered both machines and tested them myself that I learned there is NO substitute for your own personal experience! So before you judge me or think I'm crazy for saying the performance between the M2 Air and 16" was unnoticeable at my first impression, you'd better make sure you've tested both of these systems yourself like I am doing now. After watching videos and hearing all the rave about the 16" Macbook Pro, I was certain its performance would be miles ahead of the M2 Air. I will preface this post by saying, you can only glean so much from reading and watching youtube videos.
